Project Description
Australia in the Great War is the new permanent exhibition in the First World War Galleries at the Australian War Memorial. It is the first major refurbishment of the galleries in over 40 years and one of the key contributions to commemorating the centenary of the conflict.
While respecting the heritage values and character of the building, the new scheme significantly re-configured the galleries to instate a chronology of major campaigns and battles and tell the stories of the Western Front and Desert campaigns concurrently. The much-loved dioramas and major paintings were painstakingly conserved, restored and re-housed. More than 140 points of multimedia were integrated to enhance the visitor experience and augment the interpretation of the iconic national collection.
